| How it Began
Around 1989 three people converged in my life to set the ball into motion. To renew my teaching certificate, I took a modern art history class at the Greenville Museum of Art.
During my instruction in modern art, my professor was praising the work of Jackson Pollock.
Knowing that Pollock was rumored not to be able to draw (I believe that drawing is a discipline and anyone calling themselves an artist must be able to draw), I protested and expressed my views about Pollock.
My teacher asked if I could reproduce a Jackson Pollock. "Pshaw, I could DANCE a Jackson Pollock!" I replied. To which my instructor said "Hmmmm, You should be working 3 dimensionally ."
My husband had, and still has, a family friend in Florida who was making pottery for the craft fair market. He would compliment her work, over and over again.
Now, Ladies please, how often do we need to hear your husband praising another woman before we hear ourselves saying out loud... "She's not that good. I took pottery in College. I could do that."
Finally my babysitter, who cared for my children while I was taking classes in Greenville, said "I have a potters wheel in my garage."
After picking my chin up off the floor from my amazement, I asked if she'd sell it to me. The rest, as they say, is history!

Kate's Quips: I once heard that some people are "naturals" at pottery. Not so for me. I worked hard and enjoyed the work. After being excepted into Pottery Too, a gallery in Anderson, SC, it was impressed upon me that I now needed some pieces that were "show worthy".
